Scott McCleod was a test pilot for Grumman, he got seconded on to the LM program and served as a liaison between the Astronauts and Grumman technical departments. He would try out equipment on the test articles and production LM,s and would report back his findings to the astronauts, as a test pilot he "spoke their language" and was better placed to communicate with them than the design engineers.
