Acquired from Lunar legacies
Collection Number TSM-260
The lunar module had probes that extended below the landing legs. When one of these probes touched the lunar surface a light was illuminated on the control panel. This alerted the astronauts that they were very close to the surface and it was time to shut down the descent engine.
These probes were folded up against the leg when the LM was held inside the apollo Spacecraft Lunar Module Adapter (SLA).
The bracket held them in their stowed position. When the legs unfolded this mechanism was released and the probes which were sprung loaded were deployed
The bracket can be seen on the leg of the LM
