Now it was time to start painting and applying the finishing touches
Rocket nozzles and turbine exhaust finished with Vallejo jet exhaust
Side pods and tank line in polished Aluminium
small pods, tank lines finished in Stainless steel
flame deck finished in Aluminium
The main body was started
The scribing templates were put to good use reinstating the lines on the conical section
Tank line was patched with a small section of styrene, the rate change pod glued into place and the assembly pre fitted to the rocket
sections of the body were masked and a marble coat of white applied.
The masking was removed leaving those areas jet black
A coat of Stainless Steel applied. it is quite subtle and you can see the darker areas that were masked, and with the naked eye you can make out some small tonal variations.
Here the variations can be seen a little better
The spacecraft adaptor section has a range finder fitted, this is two small parts of photo etch. The fairing was folded, the position was marked
the area was taped off and the raised detail was shave away
The adaptor was primed and the items fitted
The adaptor and part of the capsule are a black colour with a very stilght greenish tinge. Here a spare part of the kit was used as a test bed to get the mixture correct
The tail section was given a coat of gloss prior to it being painted with Aluninium
A coat of Aluminium appled to the tail section
The instructions call for part of the capsule to be finished in titanium. I used gold titanium, which looked "too gold", i added some polished aluminium to tone it down a bit

The instructions call for part of the capsule to be finished in titanium. I used gold titanium, which looked "too gold", i added some polished aluminium to tone it down a bit. The test bed part was used to try out masking and painting techniques
Solid edge draughting was used to produce a set of paint masks
The lower section had been painted with the black and a mask applied over it. The the top half painted over white and the next set of masks applied
The titanium colour was painted, at this stage i intended to darken ot all with a mist coat of darker paint.
In my eagerness to see if the masking had worked i ripped it all off before i remembered to add the darker coat!!!!!. Still i was quite pleased at how it had turned out
With all the main parts painted, and a coat of Aqua-gloss applied to protect the parts from being stained by the decal solution it was time to apply the decals
tank line wrap around. These were difficult to apply. I ended up using Mr mark setter to "glue them to the pipe. and then applied Super strong decal solution untill they wrapped them selves around the pipe
the only job leeft then was to assemble the baseplate, install the artifact in its holder and glue the separate sections of the rocket together
