The patch was purchased from Richard Garner, the owner of a company called the Space Collective. Richard deals in space memorabilia, and he designed the patch to commemorate NASA’s 60
th Anniversary. He then arranged for the patches, and enamel pins to be flown up to the International Space Station. The original plan was for two batches to be delivered to the station, and six months later the first batch of 125 were to be returned to earth, and the second batch of 125 to be returned a further six months later. The first batch due to operational circumstances ended up staying aboard the station for fourteen months instead of the originally planned six months. The patch is now back safely with Richard, but due to the current situation the patch and relevant documentation cannot be delivered. The patch when delivered will bear the serial number 2 of 250.
