Acquired from Apollo Mission Control (Jerome Bascom-Pipp)
Date acquired 25th January 2023
Collection number TSM 159
An image taken =of the CSM ready to be mated to the SLA in the VAB
Allthough the back of the image states that this is Apollo 9 it is in fact Apollo 8. The image has erroneously been marked up by NASA.
This information was supplied by Ed Hengveld, Noted space historian and artist.
I had posted the picture on Facebook, Ed pointed out the mistake and this is his explanation
This is actually Apollo 8, although the photo has a 1969 number from NASA Headquarters (69-H-72). Photo 108-KSC-68-11161 in the National Archives is almost identical to this one and is part of a series taken on October 4, 1968, as the Apollo 8 CSM had the SPS nozzle installed and was mated with the Spacecraft LM Adapter (SLA) in the Manned Spacecraft Operations Building (MSOB) at KSC
