Firstly i would like to thank my friend Jon Hancock who gifted me this lovely publication
Whilst this is a catalogue i decided to include it here at the start of the images section as it is a collection of images. It serves as a reminder of some of the breathtaking images that have been taken by the astronauts. It also serves to underline how multi talented they were in capturing such quality photographs.
In my only relatively recent time of collecting space memorabilia it has always fascinated me as to why these images sell for what appears to me for very high prices.
This catalogue predates the start of my collecting, and the guide prices of some of the images are eye watering, and then by the time a 25% sellers premium is added the figures are incredible.
The auction comprised of 800 lots, the "average" image price was £200-£400. Many items were valued in the £1000's.
Below i have included a few shots of some of the more expensive items
This lot was for an album of pictures that were from the collection of Ed White, the first American to walk in space.
As this was his personal collection that would partway go to justifying the guide price of between 8 to 10 thousand
An image taken by Neil Armstrong of Buzz Aldrin during the first moon landing
This image dubbed earthrise was taken by Bill Anders during the Apollo 8 mission, and was the first time humans had travelled to the moon
